The Ministry of Usher is the oldest lay ministry in the Catholic Church. The Usher of today have descended from a long line of people of God who have gone before them. During the time of Christ, the doorkeepers of the temple numbered in the hundreds and were the forerunners of today’s ushers.
Usher are the face of the parish and are to aid other, but most of all be a welcoming presence to those who are new. For regular parishioners they are a welcoming face and provide continuity for each of the Masses.
Usher assist newcomers to the parish or visitors by providing information and directions. Ushers assist the elderly to their seats if needing assistance and inquire if they would like the Eucharistic Minister to come to them and assist in other ways to be helpful to parishioners.
