An Extra-ordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EOMHC) assists the celebrant in the distribution of Holy Communion to the faithful during the liturgy.. EOMHC often transfer, in the absence of a Deacon, the Eucharist from the tabernacle to the altar and purify the sacred vessels after communion.
An addition function of the EOMHC is to take Communion to the homebound. Special training for this function is conducted to prepare the volunteer and insure that they understand the addition requirements. Two EOMHC are required when visiting the homebound.
